As president of the Avery Dennison Foundation, Alicia Procello Maddox developed and implemented grant making procedures for the philanthropic organization. She is also instrumental in engaging employees of the Avery Dennison Corporation in community volunteer efforts. In addition to her work with the Avery Dennison Foundation, Ms. Maddox also supports the African American Board Leadership Institute.
Established in 2011, the African American Board Leadership Institute exists to strengthen nonprofit, public, and private institutions with the placement of qualified African Americans on their governing boards. In order to accomplish this goal, the organization has developed a leadership program to help prepare individuals for these positions.
The Board Leadership Program is designed for professionals who wish to hone their current set of leadership skills and receive in depth preparation for board placement. The program consists of a two-day intensive course that covers topics such as governance and fiduciary oversight, understanding financial statements, fundraising and resource development, and emotional, political, and cultural intelligence. The course is taught by business professionals and members of academia.
Following completion of the leadership program, the institute helps graduates find placement on appropriate governing boards.
